SDMC Uses Podcast to Recruit Volunteers
The Justice Center was recently invited to appear on UAlbany's "Social Workers Radio Talk Show" to discuss the first-in-the-country Surrogate Decision-Making Committee (SDMC).  Volunteers on SDMC make medical decisions for individuals who are in need of non-emergency major medical procedures but lack capacity to provide informed consent and who do not have a designated legal guardian to make the decision for them.  SDMC is currently recruiting new members across the state.
SDMC Coordinator Stephanie Deyo provided listeners with an overview of the Committee's mission and what it means to be a volunteer.  Volunteers have the flexibility to select the days, times, and counties in which they are able to serve.  The time commitment is flexible and volunteers can choose to accept to participate or decline when asked.
Anyone interested can learn more by listening to Deyo's podcast linked below or visit the Justice Center's Surrogate Decision-Making Committee webpage.
