The Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and the Justice Center both serve important oversight roles to ensure people receiving services are protected from harm. In response to feedback from providers, we are releasing a new fact sheet to offer a better understanding of our unique oversight and monitoring responsibilities.
By working together and providing clear guidance, OPWDD and the Justice Center are empowering providers to focus on what matters most: ensuring the safety and well-being of the individuals they support.
This new joint resource document will help providers:
- Understand Oversight Roles: The document outlines the distinct but complementary oversight and monitoring responsibilities of OPWDD and the Justice Center, specifically highlighting the roles of the Incident Management Unit (IMU), Bureau of Program Certification (BPC), and Prevention and Quality Improvement (PQI).
- Streamlined Documentation: The document provides helpful reminders regarding documentation for training and immediate safeguards, aiming to reduce duplicative requests and ease the burden on providers. Tips include detailed sign-in sheets, documenting all immediate safeguards taken, and ensuring easy access to CAP-related materials.
It's a step towards a more collaborative and effective system of oversight and support!
If you're a provider working with individuals with developmental disabilities in New York State, be sure to take advantage of this valuable new resource.
