Agency staff share in the smiles at annual sports camp for individuals with special needs

When Debbie Cavers reached out to the NFL star defenseman Harrison Phillips on a whim, she wasn’t expecting much. Phillips, a well-known Buffalo Bills player at the time, had sponsored a kids camp for at-risk youth and Debbie hoped he would consider expanding his program to the developmental disability community in Western NY. Little did she know that brief voicemail would turn into a years-long partnership, a spot on the foundation’s board, and a lifetime of positive experiences.

This year, the Justice Center had the unique opportunity to play a small role in this story as title sponsor Harrison’s Playmakers.

Harrison Phillips is a current NFL player with the Minnesota Vikings. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills and spent four seasons with the team. During his time in Buffalo, he started the Playmakers camp. His connection to the people and community of Buffalo was so strong that even after leaving the team in free agency, he has returned every year to host various Playmakers events. A ray of light for camp participants, Phillips has a true passion for helping others and leading the “inclusion revolution,” as he puts it, to see those with disabilities live the fullest and best lives possible.

Today, the foundation aims to create a world where every child, regardless of social, physical, or economic challenges, is empowered to overcome obstacles and thrive.

Thank you to the team at Harrison’s Playmakers for making our first sponsorship year so fulfilling. And special thanks to our dedicated staff who made the trip out to Buffalo to volunteer at this year’s camp.
