The Justice Center Sponsors Harrison’s Playmakers in Buffalo
Agency staff cheer on the champs at annual sports camp
For the second year, the NYS Justice Center served title sponsor for Harrison's Playmakers - an organization whose vision is to create a world where every child, regardless of social, physical, or economic challenges, is empowered to overcome obstacles and thrive.
The foundation was created by Harrison Phillips - a current NFL player with the Minnesota Vikings. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills and spent four seasons with the team. During his time in Buffalo, he started the Playmakers camp. His connection to the people and community of Buffalo was so strong that even after leaving the team in free agency, he has returned every year to host various Playmakers events. A ray of light for camp participants, Phillips has a true passion for helping others and leading the “inclusion revolution,” as he puts it, to see those with disabilities live the fullest and best lives possible.
The Justice Center recently supported Harrison and his crew at the foundation's annual Sports Camp in Buffalo. The day consisted of engaging outdoor games and smiles at every yard line. Agency staff also showcased equipment from the Center for Assistive Technology University of Buffalo - a regional TRAID (Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities) Center in New York.
“As an agency tasked with maintaining the health, safety, and dignity of individuals with special needs, we’re honored to once again sponsor Harrison’s Playmakers – an organization whose mission fosters independence and emboldens individuals with disabilities to realize their full potential in life,” said Maria Lisi-Murray, Esq., Acting Executive Director of the NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. “This year, our team had an opportunity to showcase our State’s TRAID program at the event. Funded through federal grants, TRAID is administered through the Justice Center and offers assistive technology device loans to any New Yorker with a disability, free of charge."
Thank you to the team at Harrison’s Playmakers for allowing us to join in the fun for another year. And special thanks to our dedicated staff who made the trip out to Buffalo to volunteer at this year’s camp.
