State agency charged with protecting 1 million New Yorkers spotlights local care worker
A tenured professional with more than 30 years of experience in the behavioral health field, Crystal started at WellLife as a direct care worker in a community residence. Over the years, she demonstrated leadership skills that put her on her path toward her current role. Today, Crystal is a dynamic leader and a tireless public servant who helps ensure people receiving services from WellLife are heard, seen and valued.
“Leaders like Crystal are a rare find. She knows her organization inside and out, working her way up the career ladder and maintaining the highest standard of person-centered care in the process.” said Justice Center Acting Executive Director Maria Lisi-Murray. “Thank you to Crystal for her perseverance, resilience and determination—it’s an honor to present you with this year’s Code of Conduct Award!”
Those honored with a Code of Conduct Award truly embody the Justice Center’s founding principles and standards outlined in the Code of Conduct for Custodians of People with Special Needs. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to ensure people enrolled in programs under Justice Center jurisdiction receive support in a manner that prioritizes their dignity, safety, and rights.
According to her nomination, Crystal is a true go-getter. She leads by example, training her staff on proper protocols she learned during her time in the field. Crystal is a champion for empathy, compassion, and total personal wellness.
“Crystal John has dedicated 38 years to advancing the highest standards of care within WellLife Network, beginning her career as a case manager and rising to Vice President of Mental Health Residential Services.” said Sherry Tucker, CEO of WellLife Network. “Throughout her tenure, she has embodied an unwavering commitment to protecting and empowering individuals with special needs. Crystal’s leadership is defined by integrity, compassion, and a deep understanding of the communities we serve. Her recognition by the New York State Justice Center for exemplifying the Code of Conduct underscores a distinguished career rooted in advocacy and excellence. We are proud to honor her remarkable contributions and the profound, lasting impact she has made across our programs.”
Awards are compiled by the NYS Justice Center each year. Winners are selected by the Justice Center’s Advisory Council – a group that provides guidance to the Justice Center in the development of policies, programs, and regulations. The council consists of service providers, people who have or are currently receiving services, their family members, and advocates.
The Justice Center received more than 200 nominations for this year’s program. Six winners were selected from a dozen finalists. Each submission highlighted the dedicated members of our State’s human services workforce.
