NYS Justice Center Ombudsman Program

NYS Justice Center's Ombudsman Program

The NYS Justice Center's Ombudsman Program advocates for the rights and well-being of individuals receiving services at Sunmount and Valley Ridge Developmental Centers. The Ombudsman is a resource that assists individuals and their families with navigating programs and services, and advocating for their rights. Our Ombudsman uses a trauma-informed approach when providing services.

  • Complaints and Concerns:

  • Access to Information, Resources, and Services:

Provide consultation and information about an individual's rights and available resources and services to individuals receiving services, families, and agency staff.

  • Systemic Issues:

Identify and address systemic issues.  Inform leadership regarding systemic issues that can’t be resolved by the Ombudsman, individuals receiving services, their families, and staff.

  • Promote and Foster Self-Advocacy:

Empower individuals receiving services to advocate for themselves, make informed choices, and exercise their rights. Teach Self-Advocacy skills.
