Professional Boundaries Training Course

Training Overview

This training was developed by the NYS Justice Center for People with Special Needs to support the use of professional boundaries in the provision of care at provider agencies.  At the Justice Center, we recognize that professional boundaries play a crucial role in preventing abuse and neglect, as well as ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.

This training will define professional boundaries and discuss a concept called the zone of helpfulness. This information should be used to consider case scenarios covering three types of boundaries: physical, interpersonal, and psychological. This training will culminate with a discussion of self-awareness and self-help, and finish by looking at tools and resources available from the Justice Center.

The Justice Center offers live training opportunities, as well as recorded, on-demand professional boundaries training.

We recommend that our recorded training be used as part of a facilitated training session, which will allow staff the opportunity to ask questions, discuss agency policies and procedures, and work through the scenarios.  Facilitator and participant guides are provided using the links below. Select the guide that best suits the services your agency provides.

This training, however, is also designed to be effective for individual self-study.  A certificate of completion is provided at the end for those who complete the training independently.
